About OathRune
OathRune is a next-generation Linux-based operating system in active research and prototype development, built around privacy, user ownership, local-first computing, performance, and system-enforced security. Its goal is to give people genuine control over their machines without requiring them to sacrifice capability or usability.
At its core is KERNHELM, an authority-control architecture designed to constrain what software and AI can actually do. Rather than relying on broad standing access and trust, KERNHELM is being built around specific, bounded authority tied to intended actions. This allows powerful software to remain useful while limiting its ability to act outside the user’s intent.
OathRune is also being developed as the native home of RuneWisp, an AI architecture designed alongside the operating system rather than added afterward. Together, the project explores what computing can look like when intelligence, security, privacy, and user ownership are designed as one system from the beginning.
